The 2008 World Open ended four Grandmasters tying for first. Evgeny Najer was declared champion after winning tiebreaker. Over 1200 players traveled to Philly to take part in America's top chess event. Coverage here!

19 July 2008 - Kobese wins S. Africa Open! The “African Lion” IM Watu Kobese won the South African Open with at staggering 9.5/11 (+8). At one stage he had eight wins in a row and was only cooled by a draw to IM Thomas Rendle. IM Kenny Solomon came in second on 9/11 with losses to Kobese and Rendle. Full Story!
